Senior Development Underwriter

This is an exciting opportunity to become a Senior Development Underwriter for a highly successful Insurer in a team where the volume of business is rising rapidly and career opportunities are excellent.
As Senior Development Underwriter you would be responsible for underwriting existing complex technical business and providing a referral point and coaching to the rest of the team. You will actively identify opportunities to cross-sell and build the whole business.
Key responsibilities
• Deal with complex technical referrals and to be able to write larger and more difficult risks
• Act as main referral point within team
• Provide mentoring and coaching to less experienced Underwriters
• Develop and enhance external and internal relationships, dealing with varied and wide ranging broker contacts on a daily basis
• To underwrite profitable business and monitor the overall performance of the existing renewal book and ensure remedial action is taken to correct any performance issues
• Regularly challenge convention, writing ‘non standard’ business and able to take decisive action on loss making business
• Analyse management and account information to support priority actions
Key requirements
• Previous underwriting experience in Professional and Financial Lines
• Able to demonstrate effective negotiation with all levels and types of broker, and experience of having dealt with non-standard risks effectively
• Able to conclude positive business deals and to win business
• Strong presentation skills to be able to influence decisions
• Able to form strong relationships with senior brokers and directors
• Able to make effective decisions when dealing with complex technical issues and can justify underwriting decisions
