Trainee Underwriter
£18,000 - £20,000, Colchester
This is an excellent opportunity to start and develop your career within Underwriting and following first class training the successful candidate would be able to assume their initial underwriting authority within three months.
You would be dealing with clients and brokers throughout the UK and EU and ultimately underwriting cancelation, liability and property risks on a wide variety of events throughout the world.
Key initial responsibilities
• Underwriting of a very wide range of events taking place anywhere in the world.
• Underwriting a mixture of new business and renewals to both clients and brokers.
• Underwriting consistently and profitably, keeping within your underwriting authority, using referral to more experienced underwriters to sign off quotes when required.
• Close monitoring of renewing customers in order to maintain a current high renewal rate.
• Contributing towards achieving the team’s new business growth target.
Medium term responsibilities
• Managing relationships with some larger clients or brokers
• Undertaking visits to both direct clients and brokers.
Person Specification
For such an enviable opportunity with a market leader, the successful candidate will be an individual with high quality interpersonal skills and academic record – if they have no Insurance experience.
If you have experience of working within Insurance – ideally commercial broking or underwriting – you will also need to be a quick learner, able to think on your feet with an enquiring mind and the ability to negotiate successfully.
